Welcome to the Blog: What You Can Expect Here

In my first post, The Story Still Comes First, I shared why I see myself as a creative storyteller who uses AI for the better. I wrote about how the tool is never the point. The story is the point, and so are the people it's for.

This post is about what comes next. If you've found your way here, I want you to know exactly what this blog is for, what you'll find, and why I'm giving away what took me years to learn.

Why I'm writing this

Over two and a half decades in digital media, I've learned most things the hard way. I learned to tell stories under pressure as a U.S. Coast Guard photojournalist. I learned light by photographing hundreds of weddings, one mistake and one breakthrough at a time. I learned how software really works by building three production platforms from the ground up. I learned marketing in a master's program and then again in the real world, where the results either show up or they don't.

Most of that knowledge lives in my head and in my hard drives. That doesn't help anyone. I believe the gifts and experience we're given are meant to be shared and used to serve others. So this blog is where I'll pass on what I know, in plain language, so you can skip some of the hard lessons and get to the good work faster.

What you'll find here

Everything I write will fall into a few simple categories.

1. Digital media tips

Short, practical advice you can use today. How to write an email subject line people actually open. How to make your website feel welcoming in the first five seconds. How to take a better photo with the camera you already own. How to keep your social media consistent without burning out. Small changes that make a real difference.

2. Guides for using AI

AI can feel overwhelming, and most of the advice out there is either hype or fear. I'll walk you through how to use AI tools with purpose: how to give them clear direction, how to keep your own voice, where they save real time, and where you still need a human touch. My goal is to help you use AI to do more of the meaningful work, not less.

3. Digital media techniques

Deeper dives for when you want to build real skill. Lighting and off-camera flash. Composition and visual storytelling. Writing that holds attention. Planning a content system that connects your website, email, social media, print and video into one consistent story. These are the techniques I've spent a career refining.

4. Behind the scenes

Every so often I'll pull back the curtain on my own projects: a photo shoot, a website build, an AI workflow I'm testing. You'll see what worked, what didn't, and what I'd do differently next time. I think we learn as much from the process as from the finished piece.

5. Strategy for businesses and leaders

For owners and teams, I'll share how to think about digital media and AI at a higher level. What to invest in, what to ignore, and how to make decisions that will still look smart a few years from now.

Who this is for

This blog is for anyone who wants to tell their story better. That might be a small business owner wearing every hat, a marketing team trying to keep up, a creative who wants to sharpen their craft, a ministry leader trying to reach more people, or someone who is simply curious about how to use AI well.

You don't need to be technical. You don't need expensive gear. You just need a story worth telling and a willingness to try something new.

My promise to you

I'll keep it practical. Every post should leave you with something you can actually use.

I'll keep it honest. If a tool isn't worth your time, I'll say so. If I'm still figuring something out, I'll tell you.

I'll keep people at the center. Technology changes fast, but the goal stays the same: to serve the person on the other side of the screen.

Let's learn together

I'd love for this to be a conversation, not a lecture. If there's a topic you want me to cover, a question about AI you can't shake, or a digital media problem your business is stuck on, let me know. Leave a comment on any post or reach out directly. Your questions will help shape what I write next.

And if you'd like more personal help, I also work one on one with businesses through consulting and advising.

Thanks for being here. Let's make something that matters.
